Istria is the biggest peninsula of Croatian Adriatic and is the westernmost county of Republic of Croatia in total size of 2.820km². The coast is 445,1 km long and the indented coast is twice as long as the road length. Sea temperatures are lowest in March ranging from 9,3˚C up to 11,1˚C and highest are in August ranging from 23, 3˚C up to 24,1˚C. Salinity of the sea amounts approximately to 36-38 ‰.
Because of the unique position on the Adriatic in the foothill of the Alps the peninsula climate is characterised by pleasant summers and mild winters, green springs and colourful Autumns. Istria is covered with pine woods and macchia (35% of peninsula is covered with forests) so it rightly holds the name of the green oasis of the north Adriatic.
