Kvarner

Kvarner is a region of a great appealing strength due to the climate and vegetation differences, combination of sea, mountains and islands. Tourism tradition in Kvarner region is the longest in Croatia. Tourism in this region is not only limited to the summer season and the guests can enjoy it in all four seasons. It stretches from Moscenicka Draga on the eastern Istria coast to Novi Vinodolski. Distinctive indentity of this region is a unique blend of coastal towns, islands and the mountain area. On north - eastern part of Kvarner, a valley called Vinodol is situated with a sunken part which forms Bakar bay. On the other side Mountain Velebit and Zavratnica inlet form south-eastern edge. A special mark of the area is Mt Ucka which rises above the town of Rijeka and small settlements stretching along Adriatic highway.

Besides Moscenicka Draga those are, Lovran with beautiful chestnut forests, Ika and Icici, two picturesque towns with a marina situated in Icici, Opatija on the very border of Istria and Kvarner region.
The biggest town and port of this region is Rijeka. To visitors it offers an abundance of cultural and entertainment manifestations. Very colourful event is International Carnival of Rijeka, the biggest carnival manifestation in Croatia. The islands of Kvarner region are Krk, Cres, Rab, Lošinj. The biggest one is Krk, also the biggest island of Adriatic. Other seaside destinations of this region are Novi Vinodolski and Crikvenica situated just opposite of the island of Krk. From Novi Vinodolski towards the town of Senj the scenery changes dramatically. Senj is only one in the string of small towns and villages situated in the foothill of Velebit in the area where the mountain literally enters the sea and forms a unique bond.
In the hinterland of the region are Lika and Gorski Kotar, parts of Croatian territory which connect the continent and Mediterranean regions.
Three National Parks are situated in Kvarner region: Plitvice Lakes, Risnjak and Northern Velebit.
