Lovran is situated on the south-eastern coast of Istria, 5 km from Opatija. Beautiful woods of sweet chestnut (Lovran maroon) and laurel embrace the surroundings of Lovran and give the town a distinctive identity. It is interesting to say that in the past in the beginnings of tourism in the area the place developed as a winter resort, and only after 2nd World War has developed as a summer destination. During the year many cultural and entertainment manifestations take place. Marunada - a maroon chestnut gastronomic manifestation in October, International Yachting Regata in November, celebration of St. George’s Day (patron saint of Lovran) in April and fishermen feasts from June to September.
Old town history core is situated on a small peninsula and the upper part is scattered around the slopes of Gorica hill an arm of Mt Ucka. Around the old core and along the road to Rijeka there are many hotels. Lovran offers a variety of accommodation as well as sport and recreational facilities.
