Southern Dalmatia is the smallest Dalmatian region. It stretches southern form the Neretva River valley to the Montenegro border in the Boka Kotorska bay. The coast is indented and varies from hidden bays with sandy beaches to steep cliffs.
The center of the region is Dubrovnik, under the protection of UNESCO because of its rich history and cultural heritage. Long tradition in tourism and beauty of this living monument made this town one of the most visited towns on Adriatic. Only 20 km away from Dubrovnik, small town Cavtat lies, famous for beautiful summer houses and hotels. Pelješac, peninsula not far form Dubrovnik is worth visiting to taste famous wines, but many little places along the coast will make you reconsider and longer your stay. Must see is definitely the island of Mljet with one third of its surface under National Park. The group of islands called Elafiti lays North West from Dubrovnik. |
